Tthe book starts with advice such as how to choose a puppy or dog, where to look, dog breed information, preparing your home for your new member, housetraining, and so on. Advanced information includes behavioral issues like dominance, chewing the curtains, digging under fences, barking, separation anxiety, and many more. Obedience commands, health issues such as allergies, getting along with cats, dealing with and preventing fleas etc. Also has a good section on dog tricks.
There is a high quality component on highly regarded dog whispering method of dog training based on the philosophy of clear communication and mutual respect. This method became popular recently by Cesar Millan, The Dog Whisperer, and is considered an effective alternative and humane method for disciplining and training.
